According to the latest reports collected from CEEW, Council on Energy, Environment, and Water, it is expected that Indian Railways would use renewable sources to draw power for its various Electrical needs and requirements.
Further to this, it has been estimated that Indian Railways would use electrical power and 25% of that power needs would be fulfilled by renewable sources. This strategy would help Indian Railways to achieve their target of using 5 GigaWatts of Power by solar energy by the year 2025.
After price estimates, it was concluded that Indian Railways need to invest an overall amount of $3.6 billion to meet their target. This is an open invitation for the solar panel, energy-based instruments developers.
The only aim of these developers is to get 1.1 Gigawatts from the top of the roof and 3.9 GigaWatts from other utility-based projects.
The Main Highlight Of The Study Of CEEW That Is Decarbonising The Indian Railways:
Scaling Ambitions, Understanding Ground Realities’, is that this study mainly focuses on identifying key policies and challenges that the Solar developers would have to face while developing systems for Indian Railways that would allow Indian Railways to draw power from renewable sources.
This study was launched by our honorable Ministers:
- Railways Minister, Shri Suresh Prabhu
Shri Suresh Prabhu deeply expressed his concern to convert Indian Railways to green engine defining our country’s growth.
According to him, this study, Decarbonisation is an important step taken by the government officials to improve Indian Railways and make it a better and environment-friendly place for the passengers.
This is a 10-year plan and it is expected to meet the targets by the year 2025. The government is planning to lay down the 90% of the track within the next 5 years’ time.
- State Minister for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, Shri Piyush Goyal.
Shri Piyush Goyal talked about the 41K mission where the government is planning to save Rs.41,000 crore in the next 5 years’ time during the process of track electrification, as said by Shri Suresh Prabhu.
Highlights Of This Indian Railways Plan To Use Renewable Sources To Power Indian Trains:
This plan was announced by Indian Railways in the year 2015 where it announced to reach the target of 1 GigaWatts.
After this announcement, Indian Railways worked to achieve 37Megawatts of wind power and 16Megawatts of solar power by the running month of the year 2017.
According to the CEO of CEEW, this unimaginable move by Indian Railways will reduce the energy bills and benefit our country India in many ways.
- It will help India to achieve its climatic goals
- It will give Indian one of the low-carbon emission public transportation media.
This is a great move taken by Indian Railways. So, Indian Railways should work in collaboration with state government and higher officials responsible for managing the electricity utility and consumption of the country, in order to develop a system that can help Indian Railways to use renewable sources to the fullest.
