According to the reports received from one of the senior officials of the Indian Railways, the passengers who have verified the Aadhaar Number can now book 12 tickets in a month. Earlier, Aadhaar-verified passengers were given permission to book only 6 tickets in one month but from now, they would be eligible to book double the number that is 12 tickets per month.
This move taken by Indian Railways will encourage passengers to get their Aadhaar number verified and authenticated from the Indian Railways. More and more number of passengers will join this move and help Indian Railways to make traveling safer via the tracks of Railway trains in India.
This move came into force from the 26th of this October month. It is believed that this move would motivate passengers to link their Aadhar numbers to the online ticket booking site, IRCTC.
Indian Railways has once again come into the news by increasing the monthly cap of e-ticket booking from 6-12 per month. This rule Is applicable only for the passengers who have linked their Aadhaar card number and hence are Aadhaar-verified passengers.
Indian Railways is struggling hard to give comfort level to the passengers. Now linking Aadhaar number with the account that will be used for booking tickets via IRCTC website would make sure that the passengers are respected citizens of our country, India.
According to one of the senior officials of Indian Railways, earlier passengers could book 6 tickets in a month without linking their Aadhaar number. This rule is applicable even today. Linking your Aadhaar card number to the ticket-booking account will give you permission to book 12 tickets else you can continue with 6 tickets without linking.
For example, if you are booking tickets online and the number of tickets are less than 6 then the system may not ask you to link your Aadhaar card number but if the ticket booking number go above 6 then you will be asked to either link your Aadhaar card number or the Aadhaar card number of any other passengers who is traveling with you.
To link your Aadhaar card number, you will be asked to click on Aadhaar Know Your customer portal under ‘my profile’ to enter your Aadhaar card number. Once done, one-time generated OTP will be sent to your phone. You will then have to enter this OTP into your system for authentication.
If you are booking tickets that are more than 6 then you will have to update the Aadhaar card number of any one of the passengers who will travel with you. This number will be verified by sending an OTP on the number given by you.
Therefore, if you are booking ticket, you must collect the Aadhaar card number of the passengers traveling with you.
This move is one of the security measures that the Indian Railways is trying to include for the additional safety of the passengers.
The railways had announced in December last year that registration of Aadhaar with IRCTC was mandatory to avail concessions from April 1, 2017, but dropped the idea after opposition from various forums.
