Indian Railways has since long been one of the largest rail network in the world connecting smallest of places and reaching out to everybody. India has quite a diverse population span on its land. And this population of India relies greatly on this well-connected network to reach its destinations. And to meet the requirements of the public, the railway department keeps evolving.
From the time of window ticketing, the railways came forward into the times of online booking. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, i.e., IRCTC website has some of the heaviest traffic flow throughout the year. The websites then became mobile friendly introduced the facility of mobile alerts. And finally, the bill was passed approving the facility of destination alert.
Everyone who has used the Indian railways has known this nag in the back of their mind, that doesn’t let them sleep peacefully. No matter how long the journey is, we often peep out of our windows to keep track of a passing junction and the passing time. It is so that we do not miss out station to sleep or lack of knowledge.
But no more worries, since the railway department has upgraded its system to take care of such needs. The destination alert facility now allows an individual to set an alarm wake-up call or an alert message on their mobile via IRCTC to keep track of their desired destination station. There are certain steps to follow to get this done.
This can be availed by a single SMS on 139 or a call on the same number. When an individual calls 139, they have met with an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system that will guide them through each step and allow them to choice their desired destination. It only needs simple return information of your PNR number. The charges of the call or SMS will be same as that of your network.
In the case of any confusion you can also talk to a customer care executive who will guide you through the whole process or do the job for you, only requiring your PNR status. The SMS that needs to be sent must include your PNR status like ALERT <PNR NUMBER> and you get the alert set for your final de-boarding destination.
In all the three cases, you receive a return SMS confirming the activation of Destination Alert saying destination alert has now been activated on your mobile number <MOBILE NUMBER > for <DESTINATION STATION NAME>. This SMS comes on the mobile number used to send the SMS or call on 139. Thus it is very important to remember that you must call or SMS from the mobile number that you want the alert to be set on.
The times have advanced and so has the technology with it. Railways have also come forth and participated in making full and good use of this technology to provide comfort to its users. There is no need to worry anymore if you have a history of sleeping through your destination station. You can simply choose to alert yourself through IRCTC’s upgraded facility of Destination Alert.
